gps mapping

Precision farming is something that most growers will accept is the future of agriculture. For farms that have not yet embraced the technology, GPS Nutrient Mapping is an excellent place to start. GPS hardware allows us to measure & map fields and plot sample points very accurately. Site specific data can then be transferred to spreading equipment to make sure that fertiliser is applied with optimum precision. The real advantage of the service is the amount of nutrient data that is collected from each field. Every hectare of land sampled has a full soil analysis showing distinct variations in nutrient levels across the field. With this data, fertiliser and lime can then be applied only to the parts of the field that are deficient, saving growers large amounts on input costs. There is also an option to have map creation presented in a grid or contour format. Please ask for more details.

How does it work?

map :

Fields are measured and mapped using a quad bike fitted with a GPS receiver which plots real time data of up to 10 points per second

SAMPLE :

Using a grid system, DGPS determined points are then navigated to where 16 sub sample cores of soil are collected from every hectare

ANALYSE :

Soil samples are then sent to an independent laboratory where they are analysed for Phosphate, Potash, Magnesium & pH. The results are then translated into nutrient maps showing deficient or excessive indices as well as acidity or alkalinity within each field

ADVISE :

Each field will have a separate nutrient map for P, K, Mg & pH. This data will clearly show areas of fields that require little or no fertiliser as well as areas that may require additional product. The nutrient maps are accompanied by a four year management plan which will take into account the soil type, cropping, organic inputs and straw off take for each field

TREAT :

PHIELD TEK VRA (Variable rate application) maps can then be produced for targeted treatment to be carried out. Our programme is compatible with all major GPS application systems. If your farm does not have a VRA spreader we can arrange for spreading to be carried out by one of our contractors or provide DIY spreading maps

PHIELD TEK Benefits
